The request from Master Sergeant Matt on 12/10/09:

Dear Luke’s Wings;

I am Master Sergeant Matt. I’m writing this letter on behalf of a wounded warrior at Walter Reed named Tre. On November 24, Tre was shot three times in the back during a classified operation. While the details of the incident are classified, I will tell you, Tre was serving his country with honor and distinction. Tre lost part of his stomach, small intestine, and all of his spleen and pancreas. Tre is currently bed ridden and will have his ninth (9th) surgery this week. He currently survives with an open stomach to allow the reconstructive surgery. Total recovery time at Walter Reed will be about one year.

Tre can’t speak right now, but as his commander I know a little bit about him. Tre is an outstanding airman. He is a big soccer fan and loves motorcycles. He also loves and misses his family very much. Tre would like to be with his family this Christmas. He is asking to fly his [pregnant] fiancée, father, and two brothers to his bedside from December 20 to December 30. They are his only living family.

I thank you in advance for any support you can provide to our wounded airman and his family. Knowing there are organizations like yours which give such amazing support to our service members sure makes it easier for those in harm’s way.

Our Response on 12/12/09:

Dear Master Sergeant;

Thank you for writing the request on behalf of Tre, the wounded warrior currently hospitalized at Walter Reed. Please let Tre know: He will be spending Christmas with his lovely fiancée, his unborn child, his father and his two brothers. We understand the details about the injury are unavailable. To us, this suggests Tre was performing a "special mission." For this reason, we are particularly honored to serve Tre with airplane tickets for his family this Christmas. We are also honored to be the organization to offer Tre's fiancée free travel to and from Walter Reed while she manages her pregnancy and when she has their child. She will most probably give birth while Tre is still recovering at Walter Reed.

Please give Tre our very best holiday wishes and please tell him how eternally grateful we are for his service. Please also tell him from this point forward, we will ALWAYS do everything we can to ensure free travel for his fiancée, his beautiful new child, his father, brothers, and any other loved ones Tre wants to see. The next year will be challenging and difficult for Tre and his fiancée. At the very least, Tre will have his family with him throughout his hospital stay and have an opportunity to be with his beautiful newborn.

Sincerely
Luke's Wings

Request from Tre P.'s Father:

Dear Luke’s Wings,

My name is Karl P. and I would like to surprise my son in the hospital for Father’s Day. Can you help me?

On November 24, 2009, my son Tre’ was shot three times in the back during a classified operation. While the details of the incident are classified, I will tell you, Tre’ was serving his country with honor and distinction. Tre’ lost part of his stomach, small intestine, and all of his spleen and pancreas. He currently survives with an open stomach to allow the reconstructive surgery. He is going through three more surgeries this week. They say he has another year to recover, but his nutrition is compromised and infections are his setbacks.

Tre’ spent the past Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter in the hospital. Tre’s fiancée is in the Air Force as well and has to work and take care of their 12 week old son. His son is named Landon. They have not yet met. Tre’ is really alone right now. And, as I mentioned, he has three more surgeries this week.

Thanks to Luke’s Wings, I saw Tre’ in the hospital last Christmas. I just thought it would be great to surprise my son with a visit to the hospital this weekend for Father’s Day. I also want to thank the Doctors again for saving my son’s life.

Can you fly me June 17 to June 22 so I can surprise him and be with him on Father’s Day? I need to be back on the 23rd. I have two other children at home so I can only stay for a few days. My wife (Tre’s mother), is gone now.

My son is extremely brave and although his My Space page refers to me, his father, as his hero, he is truly my hero. Please let me know what you can do to help.

Thank you
Proud Army Dad.
