WASHINGTON, D.C. (June 9, 2010) – Luke’s Wings’ first annual Casino Royale evening on May 28, 2010 was a major success.

With more than 150 guests in attendance, Luke’s Wings raised over $12,000 in net income which has been used to purchase airplane tickets to fly families of wounded warriors in and out of military hospitals all over the country this summer.

Luke’s Wings Co-Founder Fletcher Gill said: “We have now developed very trusting relationships with all the major medical facilities. There is now an expectation of service and we are responsible for delivering these flights for the families of wounded warriors. It’s becoming our second job. We are honored to do everything we can to raise the funds and book the flights. Every dollar counts and is used almost immediately. There is always greater demand than there is funding. In terms of strategy for our third year, we are working on several large grants as well as more formal relationships with the airlines. We are on track to achieve record growth and outperform our own expectations again this year.”

The Casino Royale evening was kicked off by Issachah Savage who sang the National Anthem and guests then had the distinct honor of hearing remarks from Lieutenant General Robert Durbin. Lieutenant General Durbin assumed his duties as the Special Assistant to the Chief of Staff of the Army’s Enterprise Management Group with the additional duty of Acting Director of the Office of Business Transformation (OBT) on 1 February 2010. Prior to assuming his duties as Special Assistant to the Chief of Staff, General Durbin served as the Commanding General of the 1st Infantry Division and Fort Riley. During Operation Enduring Freedom, General Durbin commanded the Combined Security Transition Command – Afghanistan and Combined Forces Command – Afghanistan for nineteen months. It was an honor to hear him speak.

Attendees of the event enjoyed an evening of specialty cocktails, gourmet hors d’oeuvres from Leopold’s Café, and a night of casino gambling complete with tables, games, and dealers. Luke’s Wings also gave away $9,000 in prizes including: A Gucci Bag from Neiman Marcus, two Acer computers compliments of Rent-A-Center, a fur shawl from Miller’s Furs, a tote bag from Cole Haan, as well as jewelry from Amathyst, Christina Sochacki Designs, Queen Bee, and Adeler Jewelers. All items had been donated for the event.

This event would not have been as successful as it was without the cooperation of our corporate sponsors: Abrahams Group LLC, Berico Technologies, Morgan Franklin, Cordia Partners, Capital Wealth Management Group, and Rent-A-Center.

Thank you for helping us reunite our wounded warriors with their families during their hospitalization and recovery.
